H.M.S. ACHILLES
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND PORTS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. March 13.
The possibility of H.M.S. Achilles visiting the ‘principal ports of Now Zealand v;as referred to by the Minister of Defence. Mr Jones, in an interview this evening. It was naturally desired to have the ship ready for service again as soon as possible, the Minister said, but it was hoped that before she resumed her station time would be found for her to make a tom’ of the main ports. “The cruiser will be refitting for some rime yet.” Mr Jones said, “but it is possible that when that essential work has been completed she will be able to visit other parts of New Zealand. I am sure the people of Otago. :.s well as those of the other provinces of the Dominion, will welcome an opportunity to do honour to the officers and men who acquitted themselves so magnificently in the battle of the River Plate. I am confident also that recruiting would receive a substantial stimulus as a result.”
