GUN CLUB ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANNUAL SHOOT. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the South Wairarapa Gun Club, held recently, the following members were present: Messrs P. S. MacDonald (chairman), A. Warren, S. Mclntosh, H. Swainson, W. Higginson. T. Sargent and S. Thomas. Accounts totalling £23 Ils 5d were passed. It was decided to donate the sum of one guinea to the funds of the Pirinoa School Picnic and a like sum to the Soldiers’ Farewell Fund. The date of the annual big shoot was fixed for April 27. This match is held annually and competitors attend from as far as Palmerston North. The total prize money allocated is £35.

The treasurer reported that the club was in a very good financial'position, having a credit balance of over £3O in the Post Office account, and a large supply of cartridges and clays in hand. BROUGH CUP MATCH. The second round for the Brough Cup was fired on Saturday. Although the conditions were good, there was a poor muster of members. The winner was A. Warren, who secured 18 birds out of a possible 21. The following were the scores: —A. Warren, 16 yds, 18 birds; H. Swanson 11. 16; N. Prussing 18, 13; G. Hall 13, 12; G. Sutherland 14, 11. There are still three rounds to be decided for this trophy. The best three out of five count for the cup. National Party. The annual meeting of the local branch of the National Party was held on Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance and office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected. Personal. Mr Jas. Smith, Christchurch, is visiting friends here. Mi’S Hike Riwai, who was an inmate of a private hospital, has returned home. Mi’ Joe Kohai, who has been in Feilding for some time, has returned home. The many friends of Mr Douglas Kitney will regret to learn that he is an inmate of the Greytown hospital as the result of a painful accident he suffered recently. Elder Mason, who is now labouring in the North Auckland district, is visiting this district for the purpose of meeting his many acquaintances, prior to his departure for his home in America. Mr W. Didsbury, Wellington, is staying with his brother. Mr Duncan Didsbury. Mrs Ross is the guest of her niece, Miss N. McDougall. Misses M. and J. Lovegrove have returned from a holiday visit to the South Island. Mrs M. Te Maari is visiting relatives in Wanganui. Mr M. Taurau has returned from a visit to Dannevirke, Mr M. Gear, of the firm of Messrs Pain and Kershaw, Martinborough, is relieving Mr F. Lovegrove, of the local branch, who is on his annual leave. Mr Stan Thomas, postmaster, will shortly leave on his annual holidays. Southerly Snap. A cold, biting southerly was experienced here yesterday. The weather has now cleared but the atmosphere has become very cold. A light frost was experienced here a few days ago. Tennis. The championship singles contest of the local Tennis Club was concluded recently, when C. Thomas proved the winner. This player has produced good form all through the season and his performances in inter-club matches have been most creditable. With experience in first-class company this player should go a long way in the tennis world. The result of play was as follows: — First round. —C. Thomas beat G. Munro. 9/6; B. McMaster beat N. Hume. 9/3: M. Herangi beat T. Hume, 9/4; D. Tikao won by default from A. Warren. Second round. —C. Thomas beat M. Waiwera. 9/2; D. Tikao defaulted to D. Tikao; M. Herangi beat G. Hall, 9/3.

Semi-final. —M. Herangi beat B. McMaster. 9. 2.

Final. —C. Thomas beat M. Herangi 9/6. Golf.

The local golf club will hold its annual meeting next week, and it is expected that the membership this season will show a decided increase. It is to be regretted, however, that several of the older members will not be taking an active part in the game.
