The Hon P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. The Hon F. Jones, Minister of Defence, left Wellington last night for the South Island. He expects to return to Wellington about the end of the week.
Mr. Patrick Keogh, who died, yesterday afternoon in Dunedin, was one of the greatest players of Rugby football in the history of the Dominion. His career in the Rugby field was a most notable one.
Mr M. Hosking, Assistant City Accountant, Christchurch, has been appointed City Accountant. He succeeds Mr C. S. Bowie, who has been appointed Assistant Town Clerk. The position Mr Hosking leaves vacant will be filled from the City Council’s staff. The South Canterbury Power Board yesterday appointed Mr John Montague Bishop general manager. There were 36 applicants. Mr Bishop io at present electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, Wellington. Recently a new engineer was also appointed, in Mr Robert Davidson Veitch, Milton, who was engineer to the Otago Power Board.

The funeral of the. late Mr. P. P. Anaru, of Carterton, which look place at Gladstone yesterday, was largely attended by both Europeans and Maoris. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich conducted the service, assisted by the Rev. H. Taepa. The pall-bearers were members of the Carterton R.S.A.. Messrs. A. T. Murray (chairman), C. H. Chennells, A. Desmond, W. Holes. S. Harris and S. Johnston. Assistant area officer in Wanganui since the outbreak of war. Captain S. H. Gould. N.Z.T.S., has been promoted to the rank of major, and is to be area officer with headquarters in Wanganui, succeeding Major J. W. Barry, N.Z.S.C. Major Gould served with the First N.Z.E.F.. and was at the evacuation of Gallipoli, lie was twice wounded and was recommended in the field for a commission. He recently enlisted for service overseas, but was requested to serve in New Zealand by the authorities.
