STATE THEATRE
■ “THE ELYING DEUCES." For the fourth week in succession the management of the State Theatre has, owing to the film's popularity, had to extend the season. This time it is “The Flying Deuces,” which was scheduled to finish a three-day run last night, but has now been held over for a fourth night. The popular comedians, Laurel and Hardy, are outstanding and for a really funny comedy “The Flying Deuces” is a winner. “THREE SONS." The inspiring growth of Chicago, following its destruction by the great holocaust in 1871, and the rise of a merchant prince who staked his fate and fortune on the future of the inland metropolis forms the dual theme of “Three Sons,” an R.K.O. production screening tomorrow at the State Theatre. Said to be based on the composite careers of several mercantile tycoons whose success grew from 'he ashes of the Chicago fire, the gripping story presents Edward Ellis as a shrewd merchant who settles in the Illinois city and establishes a bargain store in a livery stable. Confident of the city’s future, he is determined to build up a dynasty for his children. His business steadily grows into a huge enterprise along with the development of the new Chicago, and in the meantime three sons and a daughter are born and attain maturity. But '.he father’s dreams that his sons will become his business partners are dissipated when too much money and luxury spoil them and lead them into scandalous entanglements. “THE LION HAS WINGS.” The most eagerly awaited picture of all time, “The Lion Has Wings,” commences on Friday. Elsewhere in this issue is announced the opening of the box plans. Those who are wise will reserve early for this memorable film.
