Trout Affected by Weather. "Tiie continued dry weatlicr is having a bad effect on trout and trout food." stated the ranger (Mr F. W. Pellett). in his report to the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society's meeting. The Pareora river, he said, was now dry for some distance, and a good examination had been carried out on the dry portion. More than 4000 fish had been moved to safety. The water supply from the new borough dam in the upper gorge was having a detrimental effect on the upper reaches of the Pareora river, and the question of stocking the river in the future would be a problem. An examination of the Te Moana river had, also been carried out. conditions being somewhat better than in the Pareora river. Nevertheless, a careful watch was being kept, and the fish would be transported to the Ohape river.
