GOLD MINING RETURNS

The New River dredge returned 18oz. for 102 hours from 8600 yards. The ground worked was mostly tailings. Nemona reports that a clean-up of the gold-saving tables since the dredge sank produced 19oz. of gold obtained in 36 hours’ dredging. Alexander Mines. Limited, report the following gold returns for the month of February:— Battery department: 290 tons ore crushed for 58oz. of melted gold. Cyanide department: 185 tons of sands treated for 19oz. of molted gold. Total estimated value: £585. In addition, 5.75 tons of concentrates were saved valued at £lBO. Note: In estimating the above values gold has been taken at 160/- per fine ounce.

The Blackwater, mines return for February was: Crushed, 4217 tons, yielding 2172 fine ounces of gold from all sources, including clean-up of old mill, the value of which, taking gold at 168/- a fine ounce, was £18.244; working expenses, not including ordinary or war gold duty, were £8873; development expenditure was £727, and capital expenditure £467.
