AUSTRALIAN RACING FINAL DAY AT FLEMINGTON. AMIABLE SETS NEW RECORD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. MELBOURNE, March’ 10. The C. M. Lloyd Stakes at Flemington on Saturday on the fourth and concluding day of the V.R.C. autumn meeting, provided a thrilling race. Manrico and Ajax disputed the early lead, with High Caste third and Amiable last. Manrico and Ajax dropped out two furlongs from home, where High Caste looked the winner. Amiable then put in a challenge and won in the last stride. Amiable is owned by Mr W. R. Kemball and is trained by W. Hawthorne. Her recent efforts entitle her to be rated among the great mares of the past. The sectional times were: First two 25J, last six 1.9,}, last four 45";, the fastest times ever recorded at Flemington. The full time was 1.34?. After the race Badger, rider of Ajax, said he was not as good as he was and showed no dash beyond six furlongs. Pure Gold was always well placed and resisted a challenge by Zonda in the Leonard Stakes. Hilton finished a fair third. Lady Tinkle did not start. Gold Rod was a promising fourth. Aurie’s Star weakened under her weight. Gold Glare had a comfortable win in the Steeplechase from the pacemakers, Sir Muslin and Testudo. Niello and Nevizes made disappointing efforts. Gold Glare, who did his early racing in New Zealand, is now regarded as a Grand National prospect. Pandect finished brilliantly to win file Gibson-Carmichael Stakes. Owner John Wren and trainer Frank Musgrave won the event with Wilson last year. Tranquil Star finished strongly. Partoer made the pace, but weakened. Tidal Wave made a fair effort. El Golea, trained by the former Ndw Zealander, Jack Fryer, staged a brilliant finish to beat the pacemaker Carpentier in the Farewell Handicap. Historian ran a good third. Crojick was never dangerous. The winner completed a double for jockey, N. Creighton. Indignity scored a surprise win in the Australian Cup. His rider displayed initiative by taking his mount to the front when the pace was slow and opened up an unbeatable lead. Morvren and Companion finished gamely, but they had no hope against tlie winner. Valmiki was a great disappointment, being affected by the slow pace as were Cooranga and Pageant. Elanage ran a poor race. Indignity was ridden by the former Sydney jockey, H. Hanley, who won Ihe Sydney Cup on Akuna. Indignity won the Port Adelaide Cup and is the fourth winner of that event since 1929 to win the Australian Cup. Sectional times wore: First six furlongs, 1.22; last mile, 1.391.
A mild sensation was caused after the Cup when the winner's rider weighed in 21b. over. It was explained that two towels were used under the saddle, which absorbed prespiration from the horse; also that the jockey, after washing, had a drink of water just after weighing out. The explanations were accepted. The weather was warm and there was a good attendance. Results:— The Leonard Stakes, 6f.: Pure Gold. £.7 (D. Munro), 1; Zonda, 7.10 (A.

AUCKLAND. March 8. New Zealand's leading jockey in the current season, H. N. Wiggins, leaves the Dominion soon for Melbourne, where in all probability he will complete negotiations which have been in progress some time for him to ride for Lou Robertson's stable. There is still a possibility that Wiggins will turn down Robertson's offer, but this is considered to be remote.
