FIGHTING SERVICE FUND
LOCAL CAMPAIGN UNDER WAY. The local campaign for the Fighting Services Welfare Fund has been opened and collectors so far report very fair results and state that they are being well received. The New Zealand Educational Institute, which is handling publicity for the campaign, provided a team on Saturday morning to interview business firms with a view to their making staff donations. • There was not one refusal from the twenty-eight following firms interviewed: —Woolworths, McDuffs, H. E. Pither, H. J. Jones and Co, J. Graham and Co, Pickering Bros, H. A. Harcombe, T. Wagg and Co, Hugo and Shearer, Commercial Bank of Australia, Bank of New Zealand, National Bank, Bank of New South . Wales, Cody's, Fagan Motors, J. Ninnes, Levin and Co, F.C.D.C., J. C. Ewington’s. Lyttle’s, Murray Roberts, Long and Son. F. Kean, Wairarapa Steam Laundry, McKenzie’s, C. Smith's. Page's. T. Borthwick and Sons.
At a meeting of the committee at the end of last week it was resolved that an appeal be made to the schools to open lists, the point being emphasised that the idea was to invite donations from the pupils and not from parents.
