CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE Cartertori Chib’s Annual Meeting GALTEEMORE WINS ALL THE WAY IN CUP DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST MINOR PLACINGS (BY "TH?, GRAFTER.”) Galteemore secured a convincing win in the Wairarapa County Cup at the Carterton Racing Clpb's annual meeting on Saturday. Sporting Gift annexed the Bailey Memorial Handicap ami it is ut interest to note that Trentham stables won five of the eight races, and the Hastings trainer H. Griffith won a double. The weather was beautifully fine and there was attendance of the public. The totalisator turnover was £7121 10s. an increase of £876 on last year’s meeting. The race track was in excellent order and fast.

There was a demonstration against the minor placings of. the judge in the seventh race, the Electric Hack. Wakarara was the winner, but for second place it appeared that Kurrawong finished on for that position, which was given to Plenteous, Kurrawong. however. was placed third, and the cioxkcl made a demonstration. That Kurrawong had run second was also the opinion of the deputy-stipendiary steward. Mr H. J. Knight who conferred with the judge, Mr J. W. Card, who acts in an honorary capacity. _ However. Mr. Card was quite as certain that Ins numbers were correct, and maintained his placings before the judicial committee. which was called together ilk rule being quite clear on the point, that the judge's placings are not subject to appeal, and can only be altered within five minutes by the judge himself, the placings remained unaltered.

The favourite 1 Plenteous played up at the start of the Carterton Hack Handicap, resulting m Beagle and Acrobat heading him ofl, followed by Gay Artist. Plenteous, however, soon got into his stride to lead at the. hist nirlong from Beagle. Acrobat. Gay Artist and Master Solway, followed by Floral Robe. At the half mile post. Acrobat took charge, with two length., back Plenteous, with Master Solway and Gay Artist being four lengths further back. Acrobat ran on down the straight to win decisively from Plenteous. The rest of the field had thinned out, Gay Artist being about six lengths away to fill third place, followed by Master Solway.

Another hot favourite in Siglow m the Gladstone Hack Handicap saluted tne judge in a hard finish. He stayed on better than Titter and Sky Limit. The field remained in a bunch from tne Start, headed by Siglow, Kehua, Dark Water, Titter, Sky Limit. Towards the straight Dark Water took charge from Kehua, Siglow and Tittei. with Sky Limit coming through. Siglow made a fast pace to win by about three-quarters of a length from Tittei. with Sky Limit about the same distance away. Kehua filled fourth place.

Globe Trotter looked promising at this stage, but Sporting Gift headed him off to win by a length Alunga was third, with Jeanne fourth. Wakarara brought off a surprise win in the Electric Handicap, starting as seventh favourite. Plenteous, who was again favourite, jumped out from the start, followed by Wakarara, Kurrawong and Equity. At the first furlong Wakarara had taken charge from Plenteous, Equity, followed by the others in a bunch. Down the straight. Wakarara was out in front to win from Plenteous. Kurrawong. Equity. Parlato. Valiant Lady and Balgowlah. Valiant Lady was fourth. Tn the last event on the card, the Taratahi Hack Handicap. Lindrum. who was in good form after racing down south, was a stayer all the way. Piastre challenged at one stage, followed by the favourite, Hui, who filled third place.
