W.C.T.U.
MASTERTON BRANCH MEETING. The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in the Methodist Classroom, Miss Tankersley presiding. Mrs. Jansen led the devotions. Several apologies for absence were received. A donation is to be sent to the Sailors’ Rest, in Timaru, conducted by the W.C.T.U., through whose generosity its usefulness has been extended to the soldiers on leave. This gesture has been much appreciated by the Mayor, who requested a committee to act accordingly. As there was no one representing Wairarapa unions at the convention, one of the Wellington delegates can be expected to visit the local union subsequently and report on the convention at present being held in Invercargill, to which the secretary was instructed to send greetings from Masterton. After a good deal of discussion, it was resolved to return to Knox Church buildings for the meetings of the union. This decision was made unanimously. The April meeting will be held in the McLaren Room, when it is hoped the Wellington delegate to the convention will be able to report to Wairarapa unions. The temperance fact supplied by Miss Tankersley read as follows: “I shall not go slow on prohibition, for I know what is the greatest foe to my men, greater even than the bullets of the enemy."—General Pershing. Tlie hostesses for the afternon were Mesdames Goudge and Speight. The meeting closed with the benediction.
