DEATH TO HITLERISM
MR. ATLEE ON WAR AIMS. INSISTENCE ON EQUALITY OF SACRIFICE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, March 7. Britain's war aims were summed up by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Attlee, in a speech, as the death of the Hitler spirit. This, he said, must precede any peace settlement. The British must not admit the German claim that they wore a superior race, that the Czechs and Poles were secondary citizens, and that the Jews were not citizens at all, he said. Speaking of the sacrifices involved, he said there was bound to be an increase in Government control, and many great industries were ripe for nationalisation. “I am quite sure we are going to have sacrifices,” he said, “and I am sure that the nation will insist on equality of sacrifice. The luxuries of the rich will have to go before the necessities of the poor.”
