ESSAY COMPETITION

CENTENNIAL WEEK EVENTS W.F.C.A. OFFERING PRIZES. PRIMARY ANO SECONDARY SCHOOLS. In order to stimulate interest in the Centennial Week proceedings, the W.F.C.A., Ltd, is offering two prizes, first of one guinea, and second of half a guinea, for the two best essays contributed by children of the primary schools, and similar prizes for the best essays written by children of the secondary schools. All essays are to be written under the supervision of the teachers, and are, in the case of the primary schools, to be in the hands of the secretary of the Head Teachers' Association (Mr J. W. T. Jones, Lansdowne School* by Friday, March 29. In the case of the secondary schools, the essays are to be in the hands of the Principal, by Friday, March 29. For the primary schools, essays must not contain more than 400 words, and for the secondary schools, not more than 800 words. The subject is to be headed “Centennial Week Celebrations in Masterton,'’ and to be signed by the pupil, and the name of the school mentioned. Members of the literary staff of “The Wairarapa Times-Age" have kindly consented to act as judges, and their decision will be final. All schools concerned have been notified by the W.F.C.A. of the above competition.
