CONSERVATIVES RETAIN SEATS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, March 7. The Kettering by-election resulted:— J. D. Profumo (Conservative) 17,914 W. Ross (Workers’ and Pensioners’ Anti-War candidate) .... 6.616 Only 39 per cent of the electorate polled. The war time truce was observed by the leading political parties. The Chester by-election resulted in the unopposed return of Mr Basil Nield (Conservative).
