CENTENNIAL WEEK

MASTERTON’S PROGRAMME

OPENING ON SUNDAY. THANKSGIVING SERVICE IN PARK Masterton's Centennial celebrations will open on Sunday with a thanksgiving service to be held in the Park, conducted by the Masterton Ministers’ Association. In the event of the weather being wet the service will be held in llie Municipal Hall. The occasion will be a fitting opening for the week's celebrations in Masterton.

T’he service will open with the singing of lhe National Anthem, followed ' by an exhortation and confession, the Lord's Prayer, a hymn, Scripture read- • ing. prayer of thanksgiving, another ' hymn, an address, prayers of interces- ' sion, (he singing of "God Defend New Zealand.” and the pronouncing of the Benediction. The speaker will be lhe Rev. David McNeur, president of the Ministers' Association. OTHER ATTRACTIONS

Masterton Park. Thursday. March 14. —10.45 a.m.. unveiling of Centennial Memorial tablet. High Stret, by the Hon. W. E. Parry. M.P.. Minister of Internal Affairs: 11.30 a.m.. luncheon to early settlers. Municipal Hall: 1.30 p.m.. cavalcade of transport. and grand street procession through Queen Street lo the Masterton Park: 2.30 p.m.. JVlaslcrton Park, addresses by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan), the Hon. W. E. Parry. Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr. Pila 11. Paku. representing the Maori race, and Mr. J. Robertson. M.P. 3.30 p.m.. ahletic display al Masterton Park by Wairarapa College Girls. Maoris of lhe district. Wairarapa College Pipe Band, amateur athletes. Interhouse Girls’ Association and Masterton Municipal Silver Band: 8 p.m.. Centennial concert. Opera House. The Masterton boys of the 11.M.5. Achoilles will be taking part in the Centennial celebrations on this day. Friday. March 15. —9 a.m.. Primary school sports, Masterton Park: 2 p.m.. a procession through Queen Street of all primary schools taking part in the sports; assembling in Worksop Road by Knox Church. Saturday. March 1G. —10.30 a.m., parade of children’s pels, led by West School Band; decorated vehicles. Queen Street to Masterton Park-. Sections: (1) children in fancy dress; (2) decorated prams: (3) decorated carts and trolleys; i 4) decorated cycles and tricycles; (5) pels. Prizes for each section. Ist. ss: 2nd. 2s Gd. The procession will assemble in Workop Road by Knox Church and will proceed to the Masterton Park for judging. Judge: The Mayoress (Mrs T. Jordan). 8 p.m., Interhouse Associatiaon dance, Municipal Hall. PRIMARY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATION NEXT WEEK. ' The Masterton primary school child-1 ren will take a prominent part in lhe celebrations next week. On Thursday afternoon all the local schools will be repreesnted in the procession. Banners, giving the date of the establishment of each school, have been prepared and these should prove of interest to the general public. On Friday the combined schools . sports will bo held in the Park Oval, . and on Saturday morning a procession including fancy dresses, decorated ; prams, carts and cycles and pets will , be staged.
