VISITING PARIS
PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT’S ENVOY TALKS WITH MINISTERS AND OTHERS. MEANS TO BE AS CLOSE AS A CLAM. Mr Sumner Welles, President Roosevelt's personal envoy to Europe, has arrived in Paris from Switzerland to begin his visits to the Allied Governments (reported Daventry last night). He was received by President Lebrun and by the Prime Minister, M. Daladier. The full programme lor his visit to Paris has not yet been drawn up, but it is expected that on Friday and Saturday he will have discussions with other French leaders, including the Minister of Finance. IVL Rcynaud, and the Minister of Justice, IVI. Bonnet. Mr Welles has also arranged to receive British and American journalists. but before leaving Switzerland he made it clear that it was his intention to be “as close as a clam.” IL has also been arranged that Mr Welles will see the Polish Prime Minister, General Sikorski. He will leave for London by air on Sunday.
