STUD SHEEP

PURCHASES IN WAIRARAPA. Fifty cast-for-age Romney ewes were selected from Sir William Perry's draft for a well-known Romney breeder in the Wagga district of New South Wales. This breeder has made extensive purchases of New Zealand Romneys for the past two years and his selections have been done by the Stud Stock Department of Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. Although South Australian breeders were the first in the field for large numbers of New Zealand stud Romney ewes, this demand has slackened off, and they are now purchasing very high-class stud sires. Three sheep to go forward recently selected by Wright Stephenson and Co Ltd., were one from Mr A. L. Wheeler, of Leedstown, Marton and two from Featherston breeders, Messrs J. G. and I. R. Donald. A new stud which will be virtually a South Island Branch of the wellknown “Alloa” Stud of Messrs J. G and I. R. Donald, of Featherston, will be founded this year by the purcase of 50. the first pick of the “Alloa” stud ewes, and a really high quality stud ram, which has been used in the above stud for a number of years. Alloa 140/35. These ewes were secured through the Stud Stock Department of Wright. Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., by Mr J. Sutherland. Waimate. Mr Sutherland previously controlled a select Romney stud, but he has completely dispersed this flock, so that his new stud will be pure "Alloa” blood.
