SECOND ECHELON
LEAVE TO START MARCH 13
ALL MEN TO GET FOURTEEN DAYS
Arrangements for granting leave to troops of the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force were officially announced yesterday by the Minister of Defence, the Hon F. Jones. He said that in order to overcome various problems of transportation and accommodation while travelling, arrangements had been made to spread- the period over which the men would proceed on leave over three days—March 13, 14 and 15 —and, consequently, the return to camp would be spread over a similar period — March 27, 28, and 29. This would allow every man a period of 14 days' leave from his unit.
“The facilities in regard to free transport will be similar to those afforded the members of the First Echelon, namely, that each man will be transported to and from his home free of cost to the individual,” said Mr Jones. “The grant of £3 made to each member of the First Echelon before proceeding on leave will also be extended to members of the Second Echelon.”
