GREYTOWN

WELCOME HOME MEN FROM THE ACHILLES. ("Times-Age” Special.) The welcome home to men of H.M.S. Achilles to be held in the Morison’s Bush Hall on Monday evening will take the form of a euchre party and dance. The men from the Achilles can look forward to a great evening, for the hospitality of the Morison’s Bush people is well and favourably known. The Greytown Committee is also taking part in this welcome and "Diggers” from all over the Wairarapa will be present. BOWLING GRADY MEDALS. Messrs C. DeLacey and C. Larsen, of Carterton, visited Greytown last evening to play for the Grady Medals. The local pair, C. Shedden and W. Higgison, proved too steady and retained the badges by 33 points to 5. SCHOOL AFFAIRS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last evening. There were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer). J. Herod, W. Grigg, G. Robinson, J. Morison, H. C. Trotman, W. G. K. Wiggins and Mrs Knell (secretary). The headmaster, Mr S. Shedden, reported the primary roll to be 290 and the secondary 48. The secondary department is to visit the Centennial Exhibition by bus on Saturday. The dental nurse, Miss Burney, had completed her work and was now stationed at Carterton. Friendly sports contests had taken place with the Carterton pupils. The action of the executive committee in completing the concrete work at the school and having the chimneys swept was endorsed. The committee decided to forward a letter from a Papawai resident to the Wellington Education Board with the recommendation that urgent consideration be given to the transport of Papawai children. Personal. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, is at present hi Wellington attending the Municipal Conference. Mr and Mrs R. Page left today on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. Reid have returned to Greytown after a visit to Auckland. Dr. Oakey and Mrs Oakey Senr., have left for a holiday tour of the North Island. Dr. Stowe is locum tenens during Dr. Oakey’s absence.
