WAR LOAN

ANNOUNCED BY BRITISH CHANCELLOR THREE HUNDRED MILLIONS AT 3 PER CENT. APPEAL TO SMALL INVESTORS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11.40 a.m.) RUGBY. March 5. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir J. Simon) annouheed, in the House of Commons, the early issue of a 300 million sterling war loan. He said he was taking the somewhat unusual step of announcing the terms of the loan a week in advance of the opening of the lists in order that the small investor might have ample time to make an arrangement enabling him to subscribe the fullest possible amounts. The loan will be repayable on October 15, 1959. but the Treasury reserves the right to redeem it in whole or part at any time on or after October 15. 1955, on giving three months’ notice. It will be known as the three per cent war loan. 1955/59. Ten per cent of all subscriptions will be payable on application and the balance on April 15. 1940.
