GREYTOWN

PATRIOTIC FUND Y.M.C.A.-SALVATION ARMY APPEAL. ("Times-Age" Special.) There was an attendance of about 20 at a meeting in the Town Hall, Greytown, last evening to launch the Y.M.-C.A.-Salvation Army campaign to raise funds for the National Patriotic Fund. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, presided. In introducing the speakers. Mr Horton outlined the objects of the appeal. Mr H. H. Daniell, of Masterton, recalled that in the early part of the last war it was realised that there was a great work to be done in the supply of extra comforts for our soldiers and sailors. The Wairarapa had so far done its part well in the supply of recruits for the forces, but the response for patriotic funds had not been so successful. He thought that this was perhaps due to the fact that our troops had not. yet been in action and the public did not yet fully realise its responsibilities in this direction. The drive for funds would commence on March 9 and would continue until March 16. Mr Daniell concluded by stating that this was a time for united effort to do their utmost for the campaign..

After a full discussion the meeting approved the appeal and requested the local Citizens’ Patriotic Committee to carry on with the appeal. This committee is to meet on Tuesday evening.
