There is a good deal of speculation in the newspapers on the possibility of a political crisis as a result ol the Federal Goveriinieiil’s loss of the Corio (Victoria) seat to Labour at the weekend. The Federal Labour leader, Mr Curtin, today called upon the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, “to pay respect to this most significant decision in a test electorate of his own choosing.” The Country Party leader, Mr Cameron, who is also critical of the Menzies leadership, will attend a meeting of the Federal Country Party in Sydney tonight, when its relations with the United Australia Party will be reviewed. Mr Menzies, when interviewed in Melbourne today, declared that the Government intended to go ahead with ils war policy, despite its critics.

The leader of the Federal Country Party, Mr Cameron, will meet Mr R. G. Menzies (Federal Premier) in Melbourne on Thursday to discuss the possibility of forming a composite Ministry. The Country Party has approved of Mr Cameron discussing an alliance with the United Australia Party. The “Herald” says: “ In spite of this decision the prospects of the two leaders reaching an arrangement are not bright.
