FIGHTING SERVICES

WELFARE FUND APPEAL. COMPREHENSIVE CANVAS. I PLANNED. The Citizens' Committee appointed to launch locally the Fighting Services Welfare campaign, on-behalf of the Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A.. has been working at high pressure in readiness for the opening of activities on Saturday next.

A sub-committee of business men has been at work voluntarily eight hours daily for a week organising office arrangements to ensure that the campaign shall miss no one. The Masterton Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute is handling the publicity and is organising throughout the district to help the appeal and give the young folk a chance to assist.

Voluntary groups from the following organisations will canvass the town during the actual week: Knox Ladies' Guild. Town Women's Guild, Y.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary. Salvation Army. Methodist Ladies' Guild. Women’s National Welfare League. Women’s branch of the Labour Party, and a team arranged by Mr F. E. Wells. Already the secretary has received donations to the value of £23 15s 4d. including the first of several instalments from the staff of the W.F.C.A. Other organisations are also being asked to assist, so that every citizen of Masterton will have an opportunity to assist our lads in the forces.
