TURF NEWS AND NOTES

CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE Fine Weather for Saturday's Racing UPSETS IN RECENT FORM AT MARTON GOING VERY HEAVY AFTER RECENT RAIN (BY “THE GRAFTER.”) Fine weather favoured Saturday’s race meetings. At the Rangitikei Racing Club's autumn meeting at Bulls tne Rangitikei Cup was won by Classform, and Amigo scored in the Bailey Memorial. The J. H. Perrett Memorial was won by Chere Arnie. As the result of very heavy rain, which did not clear till the early morning, the going was heavy, and created several upsets in recent form. The trophy for the trainer scoring most points for placings at both the spring and autumn fixtures was won easily by F. McHugh, of Marton. McHugh won a double on Saturday with Chere Arnie and Colossal Chief. At the Franklin Club’s meeting Jack Tar scored in the Franklin Cup, much to the surprise of turf patrons, though he had little to spare from the consistent Mintlaw, who finished resolutely to miss by a neck. White Rajah made a bold bid to the Dynes Fulton Memorial Handicap, but Clipper put in a challenge at the finishing post and won by a short head. An outsider, Night Dress, won the Peninsula Cup at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Night Dress won practically from beginning to end.
