SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC

PRESBYTERIAN CHILDREN ENJOY OUTING AT AKURA. Favoured by very pleasant weather, the Lansdowne Presbyterian Sunday School picnic was held at, Payton’s Lush, Akura. on Saturday. Over 70 scholars and parents spent a most enjoyable day and considering the heavy rain which fell on Thursday and Friday, the picnic ground was surprisingly dry. . Some time was spent in games prior to a very satisfying lunch being served by the Sunday School stall and some of the parents, and most of the afternoon was occupied by races and other competitive events, the results of which are as follow: —

Girls, 11 years and over: Joan Bell 1. Agnes Roys and Maisie Pauling (equal) 2. Boys, 11 years and over: Vincent. King 1. Malcolm Hopkirk 2. Girls, 9 and 10 years: Elizabeth Dunbar 1. Betty James 2. Boys, 9 and 10 years: Donald Stewart 1, Malcolm Miller 2. Girls. 7 and 8 years: Una Cole 1. Beryl Wilton 2. Boys, 7 and 8 years: Michael Shortland 1. Malcolm Green 2. Girls. 6 years and under: Avis Ross 1. Monica Rawclifi'e 2. Boys. 6 years and under: John Jarvis 1, Monty Bell 2. Girls.' three-legged race: Marion Minifie and Beryl Wilton 1. Boys' three-legged race: Vincent King and Ken Moore 1. Wheelbarrow taco: Monty Bell and Malcolm Green I.

Single ladies' race: Miss Marjorie Linton 1. Miss Annette McLaren 2. Married ladies’ race: Mrs T. Bell I. Mrs L. Morgan 2. Married men's race: L. Morgan I. K. Hopkirk and R. Rawclill'e (equal) 2. Marathon: Ken Moore 1. Joan Bell 2. Hitting the wicket: Malcolm Miller. Throwing the cricket ball: Jim Boyce.

High jump: Vincent King. Sweet scrambles were interspersed amid much excitement, and I lie day closed with the serving of afternoon tea end the presentation of prizes.
