“This was a very nice gesture on the part of these officers,'' said the Mayor. Sir Ernest Davis, at a meeting of the Auckland City Council, when the gift of a framed engraving of the first Earl of Auckland from the wardroom officers of H.M.S. Leander was notified. The gift had been made in recognition of the very kind hospitality which had been extended to the ship during her commission in New Zealand. The offer was accepted, and the council's thanks and appreciation will be conveyed to the donors.
