DRAMA LEAGUE
NSW -"ALAND BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the British Drama League was held recently at the rooms pf the Wellington Repertory Society, and was attended by delegates from both North and South Islands. The following office-holders were elected:—President, Mr H. B. Tomlinson; vice-president, Mr G. H. A. Swan; advisory members, Miss Kane, Mrs Brenton, and Mr Lawrence; hon auditor, Mr T. L. Buxton; hon solicitor, Mr L. H. Herd. A satisfactory position was disclosed by the annual balance-sheet, and prospects are bright for an. extension of the league’s work. The annual report dealt with the centennial one-act play competition, the organisation of which has been entrusted by the National Music Committee to the league, which has forgone its own festivals to carry out this centennial effort. The Dominion has been divided into four areas, Auckland province being one, Wellington, together with Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson and Marlborough another. Canterbury and Westland the third, and Otago and Southland the fourth. Prior to the semi-finals, which will be held in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin elimination festivals will be held in all districts in which there is a sufficiency of teams, and the winners of these local festivals will compete in the semifinals. The winners in the four centres will then compete in the final at l Wellington, which is to be held on or about July 25. For the final the National Music Committee is providing not only transport expenses, but also prizes of £5O and £2O for the first and second teams respectively.
