NATIONAL WELFARE
' MEETING OF MASTERTON * LEAGUE. , PATRIOTIC AND OTHER WORK. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held in the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were Misses Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames Charleson, Kilgour, A. W. McKenzie, Pither, Drummond, Andrew, Tolhurst, Hoar, Fletcher, Daniel, Corskie, Glen, Misses Vallance, Cruickshank, Wilson, M. and C. Cameron, B. Vallance, Boddington, Beiliss and Guild. Apologies for absence . were received from Mesdames Jordan and Whyborn. It was decided that the League should give its full support to the appeal being made by the Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A. A team of members offered, their services under the direction of Mrs A. W. McKenzie, Mesdames Drummond, Tolhurst, Hunter, Glen, Carruthers, Misses Kummer and Vallance. Mrs B. Page was elected delegate from the League on the Ladies Auxiliary Patriotic Committee. An appeal for contributions towards the Centennial luncheon for early settlers met with an excellent response. The president, Miss Kummer, said that there had been a gratifying response to the appeal for clothing, etc., for Polish refugee children. Reports were submitted on visits made to the hospital. Buchanan Home, and upon welfare work carried out during the past two months. Hospital visitors for the coming month will be Mesdames Tolhurst and Kilgour and Misses Cameron and Beiliss. Mrs Pither reported that £2B in cash had been realised in the sale of articles made by the Blind Institute, and that orders to the value of £2O had been received. The League’s thanks are due to Miss D. Wyber for a gift of reading matter, and to Miss D. Kemp for clothing.
