GREYTOWN
COMMUNITY SING ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the invitation of Mr and Mrs A. W. Saywell, a community sing was held in their beautiful grounds at Kuratawhiti Street on Wednesday evening. The song leaders were the Rev H. E. Harkness and Mr G. S. Maloney. Mr and Mrs Drysdale gave several duets on the piano-accordion and concertina. The young folk enjoyed the fun of the ghost train across the paddocks and boating on the lake. At the close of the evening supper was served to all. The funds of the Methodist Church Renovation Fund will be swelled by this effort. Sawdust Fire. A large heap of sawdust at the old sawmill site on the main road neat the Greytown Fruit Co.'s orchards caught fire on Thursday evening. The Fire Brigade was called, and although the fire was outside of its area, assistance was given in spread of the fire. Waiohine In Flood. On Thursday afternoon the Waiohine River was in flood and by 5 p.m. was across the main road. After a very hot night welcome rain commenced to fall this morning. Personal. The Rev H. E. Harkness who has been in charge of the Greytown Methodist Circuit, has received word of his transfer to Christchurch. MARRIAGE ACT AN ALLEGED BREACH. (“Times-Age” Special.) GREYTOWN, February 29. Arrested this afternoon by Detec-tive-Sergeant. W. Kane, a young man. Allen E. Chapman, Greytown, later appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Greytown, before Messrs A. W. Horton and J. Kiernan, J.P.’s, charged with committing a breach of the Marriage Act. He was remanded to appear in the Magistrates’ Court, Masterton. on March 6. Bail was allowed in his own recognisance of £5O, a condition being that he reports daily to, the Greytown police.
