INDIAN ARMY
Vast reorganisation PLANNED BRITAIN BEARING COSTS ABOVE NORMAL. MODERNISATION TO PROCEED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. i Received This Day. 12.40 p.m.) LONDON. February 29. A vast reorganisation of the Indian Army is envisaged in the Anglo-Indian agreement implementing the Chatfield Committee's recommendations. The British Government originally agreed to grant 34 millions sterling over five years. It has now undertaken to bear all the Indian Defence expenditure except, firstly, the normal cost of India’s pre-war forces; secondly, special war time measures in Indian interests and also a contribution towards the extra cost of troops employed outside India. The modernisation of the Army will proceed without delay.
