MINERS’ ULTIMATUM

EXPIRATION IN AUSTRALIA NO IMMEDIATE STOPPAGE OF WORK. GOVERNMENT NOT INTERVENING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY. February 29. Though the coal miners' ultimatum for a general strike expires today, there will be no immediate stoppage of work. A special meeting of delegates of all mining unions will be held at the weekend to decide a date for aggregate meetings of mine workers at which th a strike decision will be considered. A report from Newcastle today says that a straight-out motion in favour of a general strike will almost certainly be rejected by the rank and file. The Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, reaffirmed the Government’s decision not to intervene in the dispute. It will insist that the Arbitration Court’s awards and decisions shall be observed.
