BACK TO NORMAL

FLOOD DANGER ABATED IN GREYMOUTH DAMAGE IN THE COUNTRY DISTRICTS. LONG-DISTANCE ROUTES STILL BLOCKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH. This Day. Conditions in Greymouth today are almost normal. With improved weather, the flood danger appears to have ended. No serious loss is reported in the borough, but the country districts sufTered fairly heavily. Rail and road communication with Canterbury is cut off and it is expected that it will be a week before the Midland Line is re-opened. Large gangs are employed clearing slips. The Public Works Department does not expect the road between Greymouth and Otira to be opened before next Monday. The road is open to Reefton and the railway is expected to resume traffic this evening.

No loss of life or serious injury has been reported.
