BIG CHRISTMAS GIFT
BUT HEAVILY TAXED. The United States Government’s biggest Christmas gift came from Norma Shearer, although it is doubtful if Miss Shearer entered into the spirit of the gift. Court records have just revealed that she has paid the Government 2.000,000 dollars in taxes from the 4.470.000 dollars left her and her children by her late husband. Irving Thalber. In
addition to this, she will soon pay the Californian State Government another 90.000 dollars from the estate. This latter comes from her two children, who each hold a 516,843 dollars share in the estate. Of course this does not include taxes paid by Miss Shearer from her own huge earnings as a screen actress and stock-holder in films.
