WAR OBLIGATIONS
OUTLOOK IN AUSTRALIA TAXATION TO OE INCREASED HEAVILY. BORROWING ALSO NECESSARY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Dav, noon.) SYDNEY, This Day. A warning that taxation would have to be severely increased to finance Australia’s war efforts was given by the Acting Federal Treasurer, Mr P. Spender, in announcing the terms of the war loan. Increased taxation is inescapable.” he said, "if we stick to the principle of paying for the war as we go as far as that is practicable. Taxation, however severe, cannot yield the whole amount required. Australian will have to borrow on an increasing scale."
