AN ENCOURAGING RESPONSE.

TT is a heartening feature of our community life that even in times of stress like the present there is no lack of spontaneous and liberal support, for at least some worthy enterprise's directed to the common good. Members of the Masterton branch of the Plnnket Society have been. cheered and encouraged, for example, by the manner in which they have been met in the house to house appeal for funds they are making this week. It is recognised very readily by a majority of those approached ,that nothing should be allowed to interfere with the great continuing campaign for health to which the Plnnket Society is dedicated. .

While the value of its work commands ever-increasing appreciation, the society is able above all to count upon the Joyal support of the mothers who have benefited by the care and attention of its nurses. None, of course, are belter able than these mothers to appreciate the great, value of the work the society is doing., Healthy and happy mothers and children bear witness convincingly to what the society has accomplished and is accomplishing from day to day and are at the same time the best guarantee that the continuation and extension of the work of the society will not. be limited or hampered for lack of support. There does not seem to be any doubt that- the present appeal of the Masterton branch will meet with a measure of success. At the same time it should not be forgotten that one of the best methods of helping the society is to join its membership, which mav be done on payment of a modest annual fee.,
