The long service given to the Church of England by the Primate of New Zealand. Archbishop A. W. Averill, who is to retire from that office at the end of March, was officially recognised at an afternoon tea reception given by the Government in his honour yesterday. The Deputy-Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, who presided, said that the Archbishop had been a conspicuous figure in Dominion life for many years. The guests included Ministers of the Crown, members of the House of Representatives and the Legislative Council, members of the Anglican episcopate, leaders of other churches, prominent Anglican churchmen, heads of State departments and representative citizens.
