SCHOOL PICNIC WINNERS OF RACES. (“Times- Age** Special.) The Mauriceville School picnic was held on the school grounds on Saturday last. The weather was most unfavourable but an enjoyable time Was spent nevertheless. The sports were held in the morning and after lunch the children staged an impromptu concert and community sing. Mr P. Collins, of Wellington. presided at the piano. The chairman (Mr J. Milner) thanked the parents for their assistance in making the picnic such a success and the teachers, Mrs Childs and Miss Pettit, for their help which was greatly appreciated by the committee. Master R. Meredith, on behalf of the children, thanked those who assisted in giving them such a good time. The prizes for the past year were presented by Mrs J. Milner. Afternoon, tea was then served by the committee and brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close. The sports events resulted as follows: School championship: D- Freeman (medal) 1; R. Meredith 2; L. O'Neill 3. Two-legged race (junior): D. Kempton and B. Due 1; S. and B. Smart 2; senior E. Scherf and H. Due 1; N. and M. O'Neall 2; H. Kempton and D. Wilson 3. Boys’ race (5 to 7 years): G. Clement 1; J. Adamson 2: D. Anthony 3. Girls’ race: E. Smart 1; P. Kempton 2: D. Wilkin 3. Boys’ senior 75yds handicap: R. McArley 1: I. Baine 2; L. O’Neall 3. Girls’ senior handicap: A. Cameron 1; M. Smart 2; N. Chectham 3. Boys' race ((11 years and over): B. Goninon 1; R. Meredith 2; B. Baine 3. Personal. Mr P. Collins, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs C. M. Childs.
