GRASS FIRE

AT REAR OF QUEEN STREET PREMISES. NEED OF PRECAUTIONS. In response to a call received al 1.3 o'clock this afternoon, the Masterton Fire Brigade speedily subdued a minor outbreak of fire in a patch of grass in a' section at the rear of premises occupied by Mr P. Wright, in Queen Street. The danger of standing grass in va- ,, cant sections, which lias been pointed out by the Superintendent. Mi- T. B. Clarke, on several occasions, was again apparent. The brigade, it is pointed out has and is using power to serve requisitions on an occupier ordering grass to be cut. The consequences of major grass fire behind some of the old wooden buildings in that area, particularly in view of the low water pressure for fire fighting purposes at present, might be particularly serious.
