W.C.T.U.

GATHERING IN MASTERTON. - A very pleasant time was spent recently at the home of Mrs H. Speight. Johnstone Street, Masterton, by the members of the W.C.T.U. Several apologies for absence were received. Mrs Hansen read an interesting article from the British "White Ribbon” on the life and work of Miss Frances Willard (whose centenary was observed last year) dealing more particularly with the drug traffic and the founder’s organising ability in dealing with this great evil. Mrs Leadley entertained with most pleasing elocutionary items, particularly good was "The Women of the West.” Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostess and helpers, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded. Appreciation was expressed to Mrs Speight for her hospitality and to Mrs Leadley for the items given.
