SWIMMING

MASTERTON CLUB. EVENTS ON TUESDAY NIGHT. Tomorrow evening the Masterton Swimming Club will decide most of the club championships. In these races, all the competitors will leave the mark together, and with several swimmers in each grade showing even form at present, some very good contests are promised spectators. The events will be as follows: —25 yards junior boys’ championship; 25 yards junior girls' championship; 50 yards intermediate girls’ championship; 75 yards intermediate boys’ championship; 50 yards ladies’ championship; 220 yards men s championship; 100 yards open breaststroke championship; 100 yards open backstroke championship; junior girls’ diving championship; junior boys’ diving championship; ladies’ diving championship; men’s diving championship. The dives in each grade will be:— Junior girls: one standing, one running, plain headers, one compulsory pike dive, one optional dive. Junior boys: The same as the junior girls, but the compulsory dive will be a plain header with tuck (hunch). Ladies: The same as the junior girls. Men: The same as the ladies, but the compulsory dive will be a half-screw. In addition to the above events, if time permits the following handicap events will be contested: — 25 yards junior girls’ handicap; 25 yards junior boys’ handicap; 25 yards intermediate boys; 50 yards ladies’ and men’s handicap. At a meeting the club committee will discuss matters in connection with the postponed annual carnival, the remaining club Championships and the new baths question. A reminder is again given to trophy holders to return these to the club immediately. The men’s 100 yards championship will probably take place on Tuesday evening, March 5.
