DISTRICT SPORTS

MEETING AT GLADSTONE A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. DESPITE UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER. ("Times-Age” Special.) Though held in heavy rain, there was nevertheless a large attendance at the Gladstone Horse Sports Club’s annual gathering, held at Gladstone on Saturday. Entries were equal to those of last year, which constituted a record. The marshal stewards in the horse events carried out their arduous duties in an excellent manner. The ground was very wet and heavy, with the result that there were some nasty spills in the jumping events. None of the contestants, however, were injured. Th; piping and dancing events were held in the Gladstone Hall. The work of the joint secretaries, Messrs R. H. Williams and C. A. Wyeth, and their assistants resulted in a most successful meeting. The judges of the horse events were Miss M. Perry and Mr C. M. Meredith who commented on the excellent entries in the hack classes. The Hugh Morrison Cup, for the best pony in the children’s classes, was won by Jill Macßae’s Kingfisher. A dance held in the Gladstone Hall in the. evening was largely attended and was an outstanding success. The trophies won during the meeting were presented by the president, Mr lan Macßae.
