On the Down Grade.

Queen of Song is undoubtedly past her best and after her display at Dunedin on Thursday it would not be surprising to hear of her retirement. Paper Slipper is another who scorns to have lost much of his former brilliance. Ho certainly had a big burden on Thursday, but nevertheless he should have carried on further than three furlongs from homo.

Nomenclature Effort.

A recent effort in nomenclature comes from Melbourne. The name King Alfred has boon bestowed on a horse by King Heedless from Pastry. King Alfred was the heedless King who was chastised by an angry housewife for having allowed her cakes to burn.

Chance Settled,

Gold Flight had her chance in the Champagne Stakes completely settled by backing out at the rise of the barrier.
