PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. A. MURRAY IN THE LEAD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, February 23. With an aggregate on the first and second rounds'of 144, the Auckland professional golf player A. Murray heads the list in the Hawke's Bay provincial championship being conducted by the New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association on the Maraenui links, Napier. Two consistent round of 71 and 73 gave Murray a lead over J. J. Weir’s (Te Awamutu)) 72-73-145 and T. S. Galloway’s (Rotorua) 70-76-146. Scores in the first and second rounds are: A. Murray (Auckland), 71-73-144; J. J. Weir (Te A.wamutu)), 72-73-145; T. Galloway (Rotorua), 70-76-146; A. J. Shaw (Wellington), 71-76-147; T. W. Green (New Plymouth), 72-76-148; A. H. Dyke (Napier), 75-76-151; H. R. Blair (Christchurch), 74-78-152; J. D. Mclntosh (Wellington), 77-75-152; J. Lambie (Hastings), 76-80-156; J. A. Clements (Christchurch), 7879-157; E. J. Moss (Auckland), 77-80-157; J. Watt (Wellington), 81-30-161; R. C. Butters (Wellington), 80-81-161; B. Boyd (Wellington), 76-86-162: G. W. Melvin (Hamilton), 75-89-164; K. C. Williams (Masterton), 85-84-169; B. J. Smith, Senr. (Auckland), 82-91-173; T. B. Bryant (Whangarei), 85, withdrew. B. Dooney (Napier) was disqualified. The Hendry and Bishop Cup, played on handicap in conjunction with the first and second rounds of the championship, resulted in a win for Melvin, who won on a. count-back from Galloway (Maraenui). A stableford was won by Mclntosh with a score of 37, with Weir second with 36.
