Orr Stakes at Williamstown would be I well anticipated, as he has been showing much more brilliance lately than he did in the spring. He played with his field in his recent win in the Challenge Stakes at Randwick, though they were a smart lot. and before going to Melbourne he ran five furlongs in lmin Isec. E. Bartie, who rides High Caste, has also ridden Ajex and Peter Pan, two of Australia's greatest horses, so that he is in a position to know just how good is High Caste. Bartie rates him the equal of this pair. He had his opinion vindicated when High Caste, though pushed to run a track record beat both Manrico and Ajax. Reports from the training tracks show that there is nothing wrong with the condition of Ajax, though he was having his first race for a long time. In his trial for the Orr Stakes he had the privilege of galloping over the course proper, and he covered the full distance of the race. Ho ran the seven furlongs in lmin 24 4-ssec, one of the best gallops of his career. He ran right up to this trial in the race, but High Caste was too good and registered lmin 231360. The race also showed what a good horse Manrico has developed into. There will be some first-class racing in Australia this autumn. RACING FIXTURES February 22 and 24. —Dunedin. February 24. —Waiapu.
