“SLAVE SHIP.” i A spectacular drama, “Slave Ship,” ■ will be shown tonight at the Cosy Thea- > tre. It stands head and shoulders above ■ the general level of film fare to take > its rightful rank as the mightiest of all ■ the sea sagas. The new Twentieth i Century-Fox film, which co-stars War- ■ ner Baxter and Wallace Beery, pictures I the adventures of the last slaver as, • with mutiny reddening the decks, it . sails on its last desperate voyage. A honeymoon ship of horror, the slave : ship also carries aboard its fury-racked hulk Elizabeth Allan, who boards the • vessel for a honeymoon and finds, too late, that she is off on a trip that brings her constantly face to face with danger and death. Mickey Rooney is . also aboard as a Cabin boy who boasts stoutly that he is a man in a man's world—-and gets a chance to prove it. I The companion feature is the gay romance, “Love Under Fire.” Marking the fourth time they have been teamed together within a year, Loretta Young and Don Ameche play the romantic leads in the drama, “Love Under Fire.” Ameche plays a Scotland Yard detective whose vacation in war-torn Spain is interrupted by orders to arrest the lovely Loretta. Excitement ensues, tempered by comedy and music admirably provided by Borrah Minevitch and his gang, featured in the supporting cast. In “Love Is News,” the pair appeared with Tyrone Power. Previous to this they had appeared together in “Ramona” and in “Ladies in Love.” “Love Under Fire,” following in the blithe spirit of “Love Is News” and Loretta’s “Cafe Metropole,” also features Frances Drake, Walter Catlet, John Carradine, Sig Rumania and Harold Huber in the cast.
