SNOW ON TARARUAS UNUSUAL IN FEBRUARY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Old residents cannot remember having seen on the Tarawa ranges such a mantle of snow in February as there is at present, and growers of tomatoes, beans and pumpkins anticipate a frost tonight. Bowling. Mr Geo. Hayne, president of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre, yesterday afternoon made a tour of inspection of the various greens in the Wairarapa for the purpose of assisting the Bowling Centre to come to a decision next week as to where the centre championships shall be played this year. MINIATURE RIFLES TARGET SHOOTING CARTRIDGES. At present there is every indication of an acute shortage of miniature rifle ammunition for the current year's shooting and many clubs it is feared will be compelled to go into recess. Enquiries have been made regarding .22 long cartridges and it has been ascertained that dealers after some trouble have managed io get the Government to grant a licence for the importation of such ammunition from England, but supplies may be some ' considerable time in reaching New Zealand. The Australian factory is short of stocks, in fact has no stocks of any type of .22 calibre, and cannot obtain the raw material to manufacture such ammunition. BOY SCOUTS CARD PARTY. — } The weekly card party in connection with the local Boy Scouts was held in the band room last evening. Owing to the cold, wet night, there was not a large attendance. The prizes were won as follows. Ladies, Mrs Page, 1; Mrs Finn, 2. Men: Messrs Ticehurst and Hollings, equal. Supper brought D a close a pleasant gathering. Church Service. On Sunday next an Anglican Church service will be held at Longbush at 2.30 p.m. Young Swimmers. Taking advantage of the Carterton Borough Council’s offer to all the children attending the Carterton District High School to use the baths a number of children under the care of two teachers were taken to the baths yesterday and an instructive time was spent. Ponatahi Sports. At the Ahiaruhe-Ponatahi sports the points prizes were won as follow: —J. and J. W. Snell Memorial Cup: Trevor Tully and C. Hay tie, 15 points each. Champion ribbon for men gaining most points in horse events, best hack and jumps excluded: C. Hay. 15 points. Champion ribbon for ladies gaining most points in horse events, best hack and jumps excluded: Mrs Hood, 12 points. Champion ribbon for girls under 16 years,- Mr Gibb Johnston's special and the Amos Challenge Cup: Miss M. Swanson, 11 points. Champion ribbon for boys, and Mr G. Mayger’s riding whip: Q. Schofield, 10 points.
