Only one championship match was completed on Saturday in the New Zealand lawn 'tennis championship tournament at Miramar before rain made further play impossible. This was a semi-final of the women’s singles between Miss N. Wynne (Australia) and Miss M. Beverley (.Waikato) and was won by Miss Wynne in straight sets. The other semi-final match in this event, between Miss T. Coyne (Australia), and Miss M. Hardcastle (Australia), was left unfinished with the 1 score set all. A start was made with the match between J. Bromwich (Australia), and R. Howe (Wellington), in the semifinals of the men's singles, the score being 3-a'll in the first set, when play was postponed. Detailed results are: — Men’s Singles. Semi-final: J. Bromwich v. R. ITowe, 3/3 (unfinished). Women’s Singles. Semi-finals: Miss N. Wynne beat Miss M. Beverley, 6/3, 6/4; Miss T. Coyne v. Miss M. Hardcastle, 3/6, 6/4 (unfinished). Men’s Plate. Semi-finals: J. Hamilton beat N. A. Morrison, 6/4, 6/2. Women’s Plate. I Semi-final: Miss P. Cooke beat Miss R. Wilson. 6/2, 6/2. TODAY’S PLAY IDEAL CONDITIONS. SOME SPARKLING TENNIS. WELLINGTON. This Day. The semi-finals of the men’s and women’s singles, which, were interrupted, by rain on Saturday, were resumed when play in the New Zealand centennial tennis championships began at 12.45 p.m. today. Brilliant sunshine with a fresh northerly wind provided ideal conditions and well filled galleries were treated to some sparkling tennis. Women’s Singles. Semi-final: Miss T. Coyne (Australia) beat Miss M. Hardcastle (Australia). 3/6. 6/4, 9/7. Miss Coyne will. meet. Miss N. Wynne (Australia) in the final tomorrow.
