WAIRARAPA CRICKET
SATURDAY’S PLAY MATCHES SPOILT BY RAIN. TAYLOR PLAYS FINE INNINGS FOR COLLEGE. Rain on Saturday stopped all games in the Wairarapa Cricket Association's competitions except in the Red Star v Wairarapa College match in which play was continued between the show-' crs. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP RED STAR v WAIRARAPA COLLEGE. The Red Star and Wairarapa College teams met at the Park Oval. The innings of the College team closed for 92, of xvhich Taylor played an outstanding innings for 56 which included a 6 and nine 4’s. The College team had in its ranks five players new to senior cricket. For Red Star. N. Hoar did the hat trick. At the drawing of stumps Red Star had 33 up for the loss of no wickets. Lansdowne won the toss on the College ground and had not long boon batting when rain caused play to bo abandoned. Lansdowne had 40 up for no wickets (Groves not out 26. ; W. Whiteman not out 9, extras 5). JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP Red Star A v Ocid Fellows. —This match was played on the Park Oval I and Odd Fellows just managed to j head the Red Star total before heavy rain resulted in stumps being drawn. In the Odd Fellows innings the score was 47 lor 1 when W. Orsborn went on to bowl. He took four wickets for 0 runs, doing the hat trick, without any alteration to the score. Odd Fellows 47 for 5 (Berry 22, Thompson 18; Orsborn 4 for 0, Longworth 1 for 25); Red Star A 41 (Orsborn 20, Peers 10; McGill 5 for 9, Berry 2 for 13). Red Star B v St Patrick's Old Boys. —A start had just been made with this game when heavy rain brought it to a sudden end. Scores; St Patrick’s Old Boys 19 for 1 wicket (Pawson took the wicket).
Old Boys v Martinborough.—Rain stopped play just after Old Boys were all out for 117 in their match at Mantinborough against the local team. G. Young made 78 and Dr Feltham 23.
