Addressing two thousand representatives of the wool textile industry at Bradford. Sir D Shackleton. Wool Controller, explained many of the control’s actions, replied to criticisms and dispelled a number of misconceptions. He reiterated the control's intention to foster export trade as much as possible, even to the detriment of civilian home business. Incidentally he mentioned that experiments had been made in the introduction of Merino wool into service cloth to allow mor;- crossbreds to be released for other essential needs. He said he was satisfied that the prices it was intended to charge for the rest of the rationing period were justifiable on the cost pi-ice of the raw material, plus expenses. and maintained that the prices were not excessive.
