PETROL RATIONING
POSITION IN MASTERTON. ADVISORY COMMITTEE’S WORK. Petrol rationing in Masterton is proceeding with little inconvenience to the general public. The Masterton Post Office staff has had a busy time during the past few days dealing with applications for licences for business and other special requirements, but the experience gained during the period of previous restriction in September has helped the authorities considerably in dealing with many of the points raised. The absence of any serious complaints appears to denote general satisfaction with the allocations and moreover, the public apparently realises the need for conserving petrol and is meeting the position with good grace. In the case of anyone being dissatisfied with the quantity of petrol allowed under licence, the case may be submitted to an advisory committee which has been set up in Masterton to deal with all such cases throughout the Wairarapa. This committee considers various aspects of the cases and recommends certain action in some instances and in others may defer the matter pending receipt of additional information. Licence holders who have not already had their licences reviewed are requested to call at the Post Office at the earliest convenient date, so that the matter may be attended to while a special staff is available to do so.
It should be known generally that petrol coupons which have been lost cannot under any circumstances, be replaced. so that motorists should be particularly careful to keep their coupons in a safe place. All applications, it appears, are being dealt with sympathetically by the authorities. One effect of the restrictions seems to be towards the elimination of a certain amount of overlapping in running and this, of course, is most desirable under present conditions.
