LABOUR PEACE AIMS
DECLARATION BY BRITISH EXECUTIVE WAR BETTER THAN SLAVERY. DENUNCIATION OF ACCURSED NAZI REGIME. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.10 a.m.) LONDON. February 8. The National Executive of Hip Labour Parly’s declaration of policy calls on Britons to contribute their utmost effort to overthrow Hitlerism. The Labour Party unreservedly supports the Allied war of resistance Io Nazi aggression because, though loathing war, it regards il as a lesser evil than the slavery which finally would be the only alternative. The party is convinced that the Allies ought not to enter on peace negotiations except with a German Government which has not merely promised, but has actually performed acts of restitution, including the freedom of the Poles and Czechoslovaks, leaving the Austrians free to decide whether they wish to remain within the German Reich. “Replying to France’s just claim to security (the declaration states) we share her determination that the recurrent German menace shall not plague the next generation. Henceforth. in resistance to any German aggression, England and France must be not merely allies for a season, but for all time.
“Replying to Germany, we oppose any attempt from outside to break up Germany. We do not seek the humiliation and dismemberment of your country, but until the accursed Nazi regime is overthrown there is no hope of peace between us. If you establish a government willing that Germany shall be a good neighbour, there shall be no humiliation or revenge. “The Labour Party demands that the peace settlement shall establish a new association of States of which the Allies should be the nucleus, whose collective authority must transcend the sovereign rights of separate States. All international disputes must be settled by arbitration. In the administration of colonies the interests of the native populations would be paramount, safeguarded through the extension and strengthening of the mandate system.”
